Brussels Sprouts with Sriracha Honey and Lime

March 21, 2012

What is it about Brussels sprouts that make even normally non-picky eaters scrunch up their nose and give an “ergh, no thanks.” They’re like cute, little baby cabbages. Why all the hate? I mentioned Brussels Sprouts and my man gave me the dreaded one-eyebrow-lift. But as soon as I mentioned they would be doused in Sriracha, he was in. These little guys turned out surprisingly delicious!  They taste like an egg roll, minus all the extra calories.  Oh yeah, count me in. Sriracha honey lime sauce – you’re spicy, you’re sweet, you’re tart…you get me.

If you have those that cringe at the thought of Brussels sprouts in your house, try this one out on them. You just might make them believers.

Pan-Fried Brussels Sprouts Tossed in a Sriracha Honey Lime Sauce

Adapted from Authentic Suburban Gourmet

Ingredients
[li]1 lb. Brussels sprouts[/li]
[li]1/4 cup olive oil[/li]
[li]1 Tbsp. Sriracha[/li]
[li]3 Tbsp. honey[/li]
[li]1 Tbsp. fresh lime juice[/li]
[li]kosher salt, to taste[/li]
Directions

Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and then cut each one in half. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add Brussels sprouts to pan, cut side down (Careful: hot oil may splatter!) and season with salt. Fry until golden brown.

In a small bowl, whisk together Sriracha, honey, and lime juice. Taste and add more Sriracha to desired heat level. Remove Brussels sprouts and add to a bowl. Toss with Sriracha mixture. Devour them while hot.

Go forth and spread some Brussels sprouts love.

I actually quite like brussels sprouts, if they are prepared well. I've never cooked with sriracha, though. It sounds really delicious! My opinion is, you can't go wrong with anything that tastes like an eggroll!

I just made this and it was fantastic! I was a little worried because I know brussels sprouts are usually a winter veggie, but I saw them at the store and I couldn't resist. Then I saw your sriracha-infused recipe and was sold on it. Thanks for sharing!!
